All in all, a different and unique pipe smoking experience; it will not be in the regular rotation, and I would not seek out again. But Pirate Kake is definitely in that ball park IMHO. Being mostly interested in English blends this really satisfied my love of latakia. Lighting is relatively easy with maybe two to three additional lights after the charring light. There is tons of thick white smoke, and it really is a lot of fun to light up. My usually very lenient significant other told me not only to kindly leave the house, but leave the county before I smoke this blend again. That being said, this stuff is good enough to drive to the next state to enjoy. Another aspect that makes it great is the fact that when you pack a bowl, it does not have the tendenciy to spring back up. Packing and Lighting: It can be time consuming to crumble, but you must, or this will not light well. Smoking this tobacco reminds me of eating foods that have been really heavily smoked. It wasn't quite floral. Bottom of Bowl: A nice build up of strength, still smooth, not quite as complex as Pease's Abingdon, but nevertheless still delicious. The little black clump of tobacco you get in the tin is relatively easy to work with, but that's small redemption for the Latakia overload that follows a crumble, a load, and a light. After the initial char, it takes to a match easily and produces good volumes of velvety textured smoke. Not my all day smoke after work I have me a I get so much peppery spice out of this I could only smoke half a bowl before I had to call it quits. It's pretty impressive. Maybe it isn't well balanced, but for an after-dinner smoke, when you have feasted on smoked meats, it is delightful. The burley is noticeable not so much for the taste but more so the nicotine hit that it helps provide. The crumble cake is a lot of fun to handle and the smoke is very rewarding, even if it is a little light in the nicotine department. They have the Latakia and Burly playing so well t ogether in this blend. . It is wonderfully and potently fragrant, it's smooth and rarely bites, and it is easy to acquire. If 75% Latakia doesnt make for a Lat-Bomb, then I dont know what would (100% Latakia perhaps)? And third it is a fun to work with kake/plug. Actually though, the experience is more like eating a parfait rather than a torte- one layer at a time. Which is exactly the Latakia taste I look for. But what does come as a surprise, even though this packs a heady punch of smokiness, there's still a small amount of room for the nutty Burley and woody Oriental's; the Burley more-so.
